David Brooks, a conservative who is occasionally rational and sensible, would like to see Washington return to traditions of effective compromise, but is afraid Democrats will use this opportunity to try stomping the life out of wounded Republicans. My personal thoughts are that if Democrats were able to pull that off, I'd have no problem with it whatsoever.
