I started losing interest in the NFL years ago, when Fox bought the rights to televise the NFC games. Pro football doesn't interest me enough to keep me watching Fox, which specializes in the extended coverage of post-touchdown celebration dances and other offensive aspects of the game. Still, I try to watch the playoffs every year, and today was no exception.
In the noon game, the Colts were at home against San Diego, and got dumped 28-24. Not good for the older Manning boy. In the 3:15 game, his younger brother was leading the Giants against Dallas.
In one of the earliest blog entries, I wrote about my long-term relationship with the Cowboys. There was a time when I lived and died with them but after Jerry Jones bought the team, my love affair began to cool rapidly. Don't know if you've seen Jerry lately, but he looks like a guy who's had so many facelifts he could be called The Skull. I don't have any use for a team owner who prowls the sidelines and leads cheers during games, especially when he's a candyass like Jerry Jones.
The last time I visited my dad, he began our conversation by asking me how I thought Dallas would do against the Giants this weekend. I told him that based on the way they stumbled through the latter part of the regular season, I expected them to lose.
I have no confidence in Romo. He's one of those guys who wears his cap backwards when he's not on the field. I have problems with that. I also have a hard time tolerating those guys with long dreadlocks flowing out the back of their helmet so you can barely read the name on their jersey, but that's another story.
So anyway, Dallas comes out stumblin' and bumblin', much like the Aggies. Too many good plays nullified by offensive penalties, too many Giant drives helped along by defensive penalties. Dallas looked like an undisciplined team that deserved an ass-whipping. Younger Manning was able to get a touchdown in the waning seconds of the 2nd quarter that tied the score 14-14 at halftime, and I knew my prediction was probably coming true.
The Giants won the second half 7-3 and again Dallas is sent home without a playoff win. That's something like 12 consecutive years. The good thing is that it keeps Jerry Jones out of the Super Bowl. That bastard is really obnoxious when he gets the Lombardi trophy in his mitts.
