According to an article in this morning's local paper:
In the twin cities, approximately 150 students out of an enrollment of 25,000 were allowed to participate in alternate activities rather than view Obama's "stay-in-school-and-study-hard" government indoctrination speech yesterday. With the aid of my Casio MS-70L, I calculated that the boycott amounted to six-tenths of one percent of the student population.
The good news is that the lunatic fringe element in this community is considerably more insignificant than they think they are, based on their letters to the editors. The bad news is that the 150 kids who were isolated by their mommies and daddies while the speech was on are such a minority they'll be easy targets for ridicule. Man, public school is tough enough without having your parents make you look like a fruitcake in front of the other kids. I know that because I read Carrie by Stephen King.
Anyway, when all was said and done and after all the rightwing ranting and raving was duly noted and reported by the news media, the protest/boycott turned out to be a big yawn-inducing flop. Those assholes need to STFU and stand quietly in their corners.
