So-called precedent (sic) Donnie TRashdUMP's economic policies are creating serious problems for farmers, many of whom have probably been happily riding the Donnie bandwagon for a year or two.
During the war in Vietnam, an American officer supposedly told a reporter something like - We had to destroy the village to save it. That story may or may not be true, but the basic idea is something I think about these days.
Updated 7:45 PM Thursday: As they say in Texas, "That fat boy done started to stank." Charles Pierce in Esquire has more on the fat boy and soybean wars. The Chinese may be doing us a favor, if feeling some pain forces voters in red states to open their eyes and face reality.
From what I've read, here's what I think is happening: During the first year of this shit circus, there were a few smart people in the White House who were able to keep Donnie handcuffed to the bed post most of the time. As a result, he wasn't doing enough immediate damage to threaten the comfort zone of most voters...
but Donnie's gotten rid of people who could manage him, so he's now free to live in his permanent (reality show) fantasy world with no restrictions at all. The corruption and incompetence will set new world records.
To save the country, we need to restore traditional checks and balances, and that means a return to divided government. We can have it if a substantial majority of voters are not only pushed out of their comfort zones, but actually get their asses kicked hard enough economically to make them so mad, they're eager to punish the Republicans in Congress.
And that's why I think we may have to destroy the village to save it.
