Now that Christmas is more or less over, and I have a little more time to waste reading about current political matters, I've reached a conclusion about GOP voters in general, and disciples of Donnie Phugtupp specifically.
I think nearly all of Donnie's supporters can be assigned to one of three groups:
(1) The minority, maybe 20 percent, are those who fell for the scam in 2016 and believed a bozo who played a successful real estate tycoon on a TV show actually had the skills and expertise to make the United States a better place to live by solving complex problems. They're ashamed to admit they were gullible saps, and they're waiting for a plausible excuse to jump off the bandwagon. They show up in polls as Republicans who believe the Mueller investigation should be allowed to proceed w/o interference.
(2) The remaining 80 percent split into two groups. Most of them, the stereotypical red state voters, tend to be older rather than younger, rural rather than urban, and on the lower end of the scale when it comes to income and education. They've been voting for Republicans for years as a matter of habit. They depend on Fox News and AM talk radio for information, and they believe anything and everything Donnie says or tweets. They know it's true because they see it on TV, and it's what they want to hear in the first place.
(3) The people in the third group support Donnie because he's a rotten racist sociopath they identify with on a personal level. Finally there's a U.S. president who's just like them. They know he lies about everything, and they don't give a fuck. He hates the same people they hate, and that's all that matters.
To keep things as simple as possible, I've labeled these groups as

To keep things as simple as possible, I've labeled these groups as
- the Embarrassed,
- the Ignorant, and
- the Evil
