Hard as it is to believe, it's another Election Day in America. It seems like every time I turn around, we're voting again.
Since I became eligible to vote, election days have been stressful because I always have a vested interest in the results. I was happy when Jimmy Carter won in 1976, then happy again in 1992 and 1996 when Clinton & Gore won consecutive elections. I was stunned but elated when Obama won in 2008, and thankful when he repeated in 2012.
Elections that gave us eight years of Reagan then eight years of Bush 43 were major bummers that later seemed insignificant compared to the massive catastrophe in 2016, when Putin's sock puppet sneaked past Mrs. Clinton in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The 2020 outcome that resulted in Democratic control of the White House and Congress was a huge relief when it was finally settled.
The 2022 midterm is another critical election since the Waste of Shit transformed a Republican Party needing to be watched very carefully into a goddamned flea circus of MAGA maniacs that must be forced into permanent minority status if we want to protect everything we like about the United States. One of the current social media memes says something like "I was tired of high gas prices - so I voted for Nazis."
In recent elections I've used the internet instead of TV news channels to follow election results since it's less stressful. I'll lurk in the forums at DU because I can see recent scoreboard updates and avoid the hysteria of MSNBC panel discussions.
DOJ is on the case, which is some early good news, even if that asshole DeSanitized doesn't plan to allow the feds to monitor blue counties in Florida.
Added 5:09 PM: I don't know if it's a factor, but reading about huge voter turnout (among young voters, early voters, etc) makes me think those televised House J6 Committee hearings may have been motivational, contrary to media expectations.
