It seems like everywhere I turn, there's another right-wing lunatic making noise and trying to attract attention. The newest lab specimen is some character named Glenn Beck. I saw him for a few minutes on CNN one night, watching just long enough to realize I'd accidently stepped in dogshit. Apparently, Beck has moved on to Fox News where his talents, minimal as they are, can be best utilized. Now he's pushing some concept called "We Surround Them." I saw it mentioned on another blog. Apparently it's a movement to convince all the conservatives, evangelunicals, and other fringe elements in society that they're pervasive in their influence and need to keep their morale high. I see these people on the sidewalk when I drive past the Planned Parenthood center. They're just standing there, staring through the fence and thinking God knows what, but it's their idea of a vigil or a moral crusade or some such nonsense. Maybe they're only trying to create the illusion of An Intimidating Presence. At any rate, it's creepy behavior and makes me thankful that I have no comparable impulses.
So maybe the crazies do surround us -- or maybe they're just so bizarre that they stand out in a crowd and make me think the sane people are outnumbered.
