The right thing ?

Paul Krugman says the House Democrats need to do the right thing and pass the Senate version of health care reform, following the logic that SOME bill is better than NO bill. Maybe he's right, but I can't agree. Given the current climate, I think the better course would be to let the conference committee try to come up with a compromise bill that is more palatable than either of the current bills, and eliminates the least desirable features of each. If the compromise bill appeals to most Americans, Republicans kill it at their own risk and get all the blame. If the compromise bill sucks, Republicans get the credit for killing it, but the country's better off. Is this the perfect win/win solution ? Hell, no. But as long as we allow conservatives to vote, it's probably as close as we can get.
