If every conservative was like David Frum, who wrote this analysis, America would be a better place and life would be simpler. Like David Brooks, Frum is a conservative who walks among the sane people, and there aren't many of them remaining. If there were more Republicans like Frum, I doubt that I would join their party, but a lot less of my time would be wasted on unmitigated hatred.
The Republican scheme since Day One in January 2009 has been to do whatever was necessary to ensure Obama's abject failure, and one of them referred to the prospective defeat of health care reform as Obama's "Waterloo." Their idea was to recreate 1994 by handing Obama a crushing defeat on a critical initiative, and secure a similar power reversal in the 2010 midterm elections.
David Frum argues that there's been a Waterloo-scale debacle, but the Republicans are on the losing end. Time will tell, but it's an interesting viewpoint.
