Monday morning internet time. Read the Texas newspaper editorial pages, the On Politics section at USA Today, and then my two favorite blogs, Huffington Post and Wonkette. By the time I'm through, I'm feelin' low and mean. A little discouraged. This presidential campaign could've been fun if there was just one candidate I was enthusiastic about. To summarize the stuff I read about:
At HuffPost, there's a link to a column in Time about how the McCain, Giuliani, and Thompson campaigns all got along with each other, and all hated Willard. It looks like Willard is more eaten up with Eddie Haskell-ism than I thought he was. The three top guys running against him realized he was a king-sized dork with infinite malleability. The consensus of opinion among the Walnuts, Rudi, and Ferd teams: There's no way that Willard can be allowed to become president. If those three guys were against him, and Rush is for him, he must be defeated.
The issue of McCain's hot temper is coming up again. Combined with his senility, a bad combination for a job with duties including "Can start wars on a moment's notice."
On the other side, the polls are showing Hillary and Obama running neck-and-neck, but national polls are meaningless in primary elections due to convoluted party rules. Hillary may be the political equivalent of the Patriots, a prohibitive favorite who chokes up a 19-0 season by giving up a late score. Obama's problem is that he's even more unelectable than Mrs. Clinton, although a substantial number of Democrats aren't convinced.
Tomorrow's a big day. We'll see if the landscape changes, or if the status quo drags on a few more weeks.
