Wishful thinking

These are a few things I wished as the day came and went:

I wished that drivers who insist on talking on their cell phones would end their calls when they stop at a red light. Then when the light turns green, they'd be aware of it and could move on through the intersection, and when I'm behind them I could get through the green light, too.

I wished that couples walking abreast would drop momentarily into single file formation when they approach me on the sidewalk. Then I wouldn't have to step off the pavement onto muddy grass and get my Reeboks all dirty as I allow them to pass.

I wished that President Obama and the congressional Democrats would call the GOP bluff on the economic stimulus legislation. Just say, "Fuck it, we'll try it your way. Let's just ignore the situation and see if things straighten out on their own. If it works, ya'll get the credit and if it doesn't work, ya'll get the blame."

Yeah, I know I'm dreaming, but what the fuck.
