This afternoon I finally got around to skimming through the voting guides prepared by the League of Women Voters for the primary elections on Tuesday. I hate to admit this, but I didn't see anything in nearly thirty minutes of perusing candidate profiles that really inspired me to vote in either primary. The Democrats are a total lost cause, and the only ones I'd waste a vote on are generally running unopposed. There's a little action on the R side, and I'm weighing whether it's worth it to vote in their primary and carry around the stink of being a registered Republican for two fucking years. I did that once, in 2000 while I was a McCain fan. I'm still getting their fucking propaganda and fund-raising appeals, usually accompanied by a long letter from my old buddy, RNC chairman Mickey Steele.
There might be a little satisfaction in marking my ballot in a few matchups. Don McLeroy, who represents everything I hate about evangelunical influence in the GOP, is opposed by a slightly more acceptable Republican, Thomas Ratliff, for his seat on the SBE. Getting rid of McLeroy would be like watching Texas lose to Alabama --- heart-warming. My incumbent state representative is being challenged by a religious fanatic as disgusting as McLeroy; he makes me want to puke, and I'd like to vote against him, too. Finally, Ricardo and Kay Bay are ready for their grudge match. There's some internet chatter that a vote for Medina might force a runoff, requiring RP and KB to waste more millions and trash each other publicly a while longer.
One downside of living in Texas is that nearly every vote I cast is a goddamned waste of time and energy. Tuesday, practically every choice is between REALLY BAD and MUCH, MUCH WORSE, which is what you typically get in a one-party state.
